King Lalibela is said to have seen Jerusalem and then attempted to build a New Jerusalem as his capital in response to the capture of old Jerusalem by Muslims in 1187. As such, many features have Biblical names – even the town’s river is known as the River Jordan. It remained the capital of Ethiopia from the late 12th century and into the 13th century.
This tour starts from a domestic flight to Lalibela which departs at 08:10am from Addis Ababa. Upon arrival at Lalibela, your driver and guide welcome you and drive to the town for checking in your hotel. You will be visiting the whole (3) groups on the first day. On the second day, you will have a transfer to Lalibela Airport. Upon arrival in Addis Ababa, at 12:15pm, your driver will meet you in Addis Ababa and provide you a transfer service to your hotel. If not, the tour ends at Bole International Airport with no pick up. The tour is run by air conditioned Toyota Hiace minivan. The package includes one breakfast which will be served at the hotel in Lalibela.

3 Hours Before Flight Time
Depart on a morning flight to Lalibela, the most famous of all of the Ethiopian historical sites. After breakfast, start your tour of the rock-hewn churches of Lalibela, visiting the Northwestern Cluster of churches – Bet Medhane Alem, Bet Maryam, Bet Meskel, Bet Danagel, Bet Mikael & Bet Golgotha (entry not permitted for women, and in the afternoon, visit the Southeastern Cluster of churches – Bet Gabriel-Rufael, Bet Merkorios, Bet Amanuel, and Bet Abba Libanos. Finally, you will visit the most famous of all the churches – Bet Giyorgis, constructed in honor of the patron saint of Ethiopia – Saint George.
Early in the morning, you will be taken to one of the churches to see the religious ceremony in Lalibela. Many Local people gather on Saturdays and Sundays to attend the Sabbath Festivity. At 10:00am, you will be transferred to Lalibela Airport for your return flight to Addis Ababa.
